The Drift Innovation HD170 is the worlds first full HD helmet cam with a colour screen and remote control. The HD170 builds on the popular X170 model and comes with new features including a rechargeable battery, digital zoom and night mode. Add to this the rotating wide angle lens, colour screen, remote control and the rugged rubber coating and you've got a helmet camera that packs a serious punch.
The colour screen on the Drift Innovation HD170 helmet cam can be used to line up your shot and play back your footage right away. It also make navigating the menu a breeze.
The HD170 shoots in 1080p, 720p and WVGA (480p) at 30 frames per second and saves files with a .mov extension (using H.264 compression). In the 720p and WVGA modes you have the choice of using the 4X digital zoom to bring the action closer to you. The HD170 can also be used to take 5MP still photos, either in a short burst or a photo every few seconds.
Audio is captured using a built in microphone with variable sensitivity, plus you will very soon have the option of plugging in an external microphone which is great for car racing and anyone who wants to commentate what they are doing (accessory available soon!).
Videos and photos are recorded onto an SD memory card (not included) and the HD170 supports cards up to 32GB.
Strap the remote control to your wrist, handlebars, steering wheel, wherever and use it to stop and start recording. The wireless remote control has excellent range (4m plus) and does not require line of sight to work. The camera gives off a loud beep to let you know when the signal got through.
At home you can either download the videos to your computer with the supplied USB cable or hook the helmet camera up direct to your TV.
The 170 degree wide angle rotating lens on the Drift Innovation HD170 serves two purposes: you can mount the camera in any position and then rotate the lens to make sure the shot is level, plus the extra wide angle lens ensures you video will look nice and smooth even in the roughest conditions.
In low light conditions you can switch on the Night Mode to let more light in and get better footage when the lighting is less than ideal.
The HD170 comes with a rechargeable Li-Ion battery that you recharge via the USB connection on the camera. You can set the screen to auto turn off to save battery power and use the remote control to make sure you are only filming when you need to be.
