RaceCam, where did it all start!

It's interesting to look at where we are now, and then trace it back, how did RaceCam evolve, what caused it all to happen!

I got an early start actually, thanks to friends in the sport of Rallying.
From about 14 years of age I have been somewhat involved in gravel rallying, Yes those infamous days of the Dazda and the Datsun 1600. Names like  Ed Ordynski and Barry Lowe were familiar territory. They were the good old days of rallying! Sadly rallying slowly died out as my life progressed with family and work commitments, this led to me taking a break from rallying of about 10 years.

During this time a small amount of motorsport was kept in my blood with friends involved in motorkhanas and myself drag racing hi-powered motorbikes. Then one day one particular culprit bought a rally car. Not an old rusty Datsun 1600 but a nicely setup Evolution 1, and it all started.. again.

As my choice of being my own boss and working hard had seen my own company build in strength, we were certainly in a position to help out this newly formed rally team. Financially and also physically with service work and other small jobs or service vehicles.
Move forward a few years and this has progressed into a multi car team and a pretty large group of people that I am proud to call friends. Some of them have taken out the state championships and contimued to show amazing skill with their driving.
Still providing for the family and not wanting to buy a car and drive myself saw some boredom after a couple of years in the service park. so I decided to spice it up again by combining it with an old hobby, Photography.
We then move forward another couple of years and a bit of a "name brand" has evolved: "Rallygraphix", well known in South Australia for following motorsport events around and supplying motorsport photography services.

During this time I also took my 24 years of electronics knowledge from my full time day job (A top ranking South Australian security company that specialises in CCTV (video) and security systems for large premises), and investigated ways to incorporate some of it into the rally cars.
Over the years we have seen so many other competitors trying everything, from video cassete recorders to clunky Hard drive recording systems with lipstick or even full-bodied cameras.
All ultimately paid the price as the G-force and vibration took its toll on these systems. They usually failed right when they needed them most, creating unbelievable frustration.

I decided to try some of the products I had already used for other jobs, and started experimenting with small Japanese off the shelf solid state (no moving parts) systems and adapted them for in-car use.
The initial trials were succesful from day one and allowed the teams to record and take home all of the action, this then allowed them to learn from this footage and to improve in their next races.

Over the years the technology evolved impressively and to the point that we had a number of products available for other rally teams to utilise as well. There was certainly a lot of interest in the products and then also people wanting to buy or borrow them from us.
We started hiring out a couple of our units and then also selling them with referals mainly from word of mouth within the motorsport circles that I frequent. And so it started...

As it upscaled over time it then created a situation where we have had no choice but to separate the photography side of it away, as it was losing its meaning and focus. We then set out to create and dedicate a new identity solely for the Sale and hire of race cameras.

And so "RaceCam" was born in late 2008.

RaceCam now sell and hire POV camera units for a variety of sporting applications including V8 supercars, Motorcycles, Gliders and even horses. By using top end camera units and high quality RAM mounts, RaceCam enable you to record your sports experiences in high quality digital video. The only limits we have found are peoples imaginations.

Our product range has evolved to a point of a number of systems that we know will provide the end user with the experience and footage that they want.
Shockproof, Waterproof & Dustproof, they survive pretty well eveything, all of our camera systems are solid state and contain no moving parts to fail on you under the conditions of whichever sport or stress you place upon them.
